Our first winner of the Departure Sign Travel Scholarship is Amina Jarso Mokku from Kenya. I started this scholarship to help women with their dreams of becoming commercial pilots. There would be very little travel if there weren't pilots to fly us to our dream vacation spots.

My name is Amina Jarso Mokku, a 29 year old Kenyan aviator with a B.Eng in Aeronautics, an Msc in Air traffic and transport engineering and a Kenyan PPL, currently pursuing my CPL. My childhood inspiration to be a pilot was an article in Msafiri (Kenya Airways Inflight Magazine) in 2000 featuring Captain Irene Koki Mutungi, the airline’s first female captain. I am honoured to be a recipient of the Departure Sign Travel African Women Plots Scholarship from the kind donation of Todd and Linda Wright who are members of the Ninety-Nine Africa section.

Below is a link to a blog that tells the story of this amazing young woman's accomplishments.
